Academics Overview

ICS-K is presently operating a comprehensive University of Cambridge (UK) program from a pre-school through secondary. At the pre-school, the school runs the Early Years program based on the UK curriculum. At the primary level, we run the Cambridge International Primary Curriculum (CIPP), Checkpoint at the Middle school (key stage 3) and the IGCSE and A level in Key stage 4 and 5.

The pre-school to Middle school program is further enriched by the world acclaimed International Primary curriculum (see internationalprimarycurriculum.com) Instruction is in English.
Children in the pre-school learn through playing and interacting with other children. By the time children are five, most know their alphabet, colors, numbers, nursery rhymes and songs. Those who are ready, begin to read and do simple sums. Through a variety of activities and thematic approaches, children learn reading, math, English, science, social studies, music, art and physical education. Computing and French are also taught from Kindergarten. Classroom size is limited to 25 students.
Initially, the school curriculum was based on the US system, but since September 2004, ICS-K has adopted the key stage system used in British schools (reception, key stages 1,2,3,4 & 5). The curriculum is further enriched by the International Primary Curriculum and the Early Years program from IPC.

The IPC is a new program that is currently gaining popularity around the world. ICS-K is the only school in Ghana to use this curriculum. IPC is based on current brain research on how children learn. It is perhaps the best curriculum in the market as far as creating international mindedness among students in an international school setting. Detailed information will soon be posted on the web site. For more information, please visit the IPC website.
